Begin participants in loser's bracket
In tournaments in which participants advance from pools to a final bracket, such as top 64 or top 8, it would be very useful to be able to place a participant in loser's bracket. the way the bracket exists now, you have to do a bunch of weird false matches in round 1 in order to organize the loser's bracket correctly. i know that it is possible to run a tournament with multiple stages via challonge, but for tournaments which features thousands of entrants it would be helpful to just create a single top 64 or top 8 bracket with this feature.
For double elimination, you can now select our new “Split Participants” option to start half of the participants in the winners bracket, and the other half in the losers bracket. This option is available for both the group stage and final stage.
Please contact us if you have more complex scenarios where the split isn’t 50/50, but we aimed to handle most use cases while making the option simple to use.
Thanks for your patience everyone!

Admin, Challonge:
Could you add the feature to split participants into loser bracket (from double elimination) also for singel elimination?Ex. We want groups of 3-4 players each and the first two will go to winner single eliminiation and the rest will go to loser single elimination.

Nice feature, but one problem: If I want a group stage with one pool (4-10 players) and 2 players advancing into a grand finals, where the 2nd placed player starts on losers side of the grand finals.. In that case this option doesn't split the 2nd placed into losers, but gets ignored..

Thanks for the information. My use case requires being able to specify which teams start in each bracket—the number in each is highly variable.

As I have seen from Epicenter Major, Dota tournament, there are four teams in each group. Two advancers go to the upper bracket. There is this option in the challonge but we cannot select either the other two teams who could not advance should start from losers bracket directly or be eliminated completely. So if there are eight teams in my group, I should be able to select how many people advance to upper bracket and how many people start from losers bracket.
Example is here: https://liquipedia.net/dota2/EPICENTER/2019 -

I second this, this allows for more weight on first round's performance

I came here looking for this exact feature... reading this, it is not implemented yet. I hope this can be put in place fairly quickly :)

Many double elimination tournaments that have 2-stages of double elimination brackets have it so that losing in stage 1 carries over to stage 2.

I run tournaments in which some teams start the playoffs in the losers' bracket, i.e., they are always one loss away from elimination, while other teams start the playoffs in the winners' bracket. (This is based on preliminary round performance.) Currently there is no way that I can find to indicate that certain teams in double-elimination should start in the losers' bracket, as far as I can tell, but that would be nice.
