Reilly, from the KBO League, will be with the Mets again next year
Brooks Reilly (35), formerly of the Lotte Giants, will wear the New York Mets uniform next year as well.
New York Post reporter John Heyman reported on the 4th (Korean time), “The Mets plan to exercise a club option worth $6.5 million (approximately 8.528 billion won) with Reilly.”
Reilly is a pitcher who is very familiar to domestic fans as he played for Lotte from 2015 to 2019. He played a total of 152 games in the KBO League, leaving a record of 48 wins, 53 losses, and an ERA of 4.13.
Reilly, who returned to the United States ahead of the 2020 season, established himself in the big league by playing for the Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, and Tampa Bay Rays.
Last December, he found a new home with the Mets through a trade. He pitched 54⅔ innings in 66 games this year, recording 1 win, 2 losses, 25 holds, 3 saves, and an ERA of 2.80.
There is an option on Reilly's contract for the 2024 season. The club had to either execute the contract with Reilly for $6.5 million or give up the contract with a buyout of $1.25 million (about 1.64 billion won).
From the Mets' perspective, there was no reason to let go of Reilly, a reliable reliever. Reporter Heyman also said, “It wasn’t a difficult decision,” and he said the Mets’ choice was natural.
