Postecoglou did what Mourinho and Conte couldn't do either! Tottenham manager says goodbye after five seasons
Tottenham Hotspur finished the season without a manager's replacement for the first time in five seasons.
The best time for Tottenham recently was when Mauricio Pochettino took the helm. Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Son Heung-min, and Harry Kane performed well, taking the lead. They were second in the league in the 2016-17 season and second in the UCL in the 2018-19 season.
Although Pochettino was the coach who led Tottenham through its heyday, he could not avoid being fired. In the 2019-20 season, Tottenham dropped to 14th place without producing significant results. Eventually, Tottenham pulled out the knife, and Pochettino said goodbye to Tottenham.
Jose Mourinho has been appointed to replace Pochettino. Mourinho reorganized Tottenham and headed to the UEFA Europa League, finishing the season in sixth place. Mourinho had high expectations for the 2020-21 season. As Mourinho was known for winning, Tottenham fans hoped he would break a long gap.
However, Mourinho failed to live up to the expectations of Tottenham fans. He was pushed back from the UCL qualification race due to a series of passive football. The team had a 2-2 draw against Everton in the 32nd round, and Mourinho had to leave Tottenham. Given his performance at the time, Mourinho's dismissal was natural, but changing his coach a week before the FA Cup final was an unfortunate choice.
Tottenham served as acting Ryan Mason for the rest of the season. Tottenham brought Nuno Santo in for the 2021-22 season. Santo's days at Tottenham didn't last long. Nuno stepped down as Tottenham manager after losing 0-3 to Manchester United in the 10th round. Antonio Conte was appointed, and the team advanced to the UCL in fourth place and finished successfully.
With Conte's 2022-23 season in full swing, he dreamed of reaching the UCL by staying in the top four. However, Conte left the club after making critical comments about Tottenham. Afterwards, Christian Stellini took over as acting manager, but after a 1-6 loss to Newcastle United, Stellini was also ousted and Mason took over for the rest of the season. Tottenham finished the season in eighth place, failing to qualify for Europe.
Ahead of this season, Tottenham appointed Anger Postecoglou. The atmosphere was good early in the season. Postecoglou elevated his defense line and played aggressive soccer. Since the opening, Tottenham has been unbeaten until the 10th round, leading the league. However, it was shaken up by losing to Chelsea in the 11th round.
As time passed, opponents noticed Tottenham's soccer, and key players such as James Maddison and Mickey van der Pen were injured. Postecoglou's soccer did not go well due to the departure of key players. Tottenham competed with Aston Villa to advance to the UCL, but failed to surpass Aston Villa as they lost four consecutive games at the end of the season. Tottenham was headed to the UEL. It was a shame that the team was so strong at the beginning of the season, but Tottenham completed one season in five seasons.
