Multi-Stage tournaments (preliminary round robins + knockout)
Shipped at last! We’ll follow up later with API support and alternatives to Round Robin for the group stage.

David - I just sent you an email.
If anyone else has feedback, please post it here or request a direct email so we can discuss further.
Thanks!

David, many thanks for the two-stage tournament effort.
I've gone through a test tournament and have feedback. Where/how do you want the feedback provided?

Wilson - shouldn't take too terribly long to support double elim for the group stage. We know a lot of people who require this as well, so it'll be among our top priorities after the initial release.

Awesome to hear that this is now coming to fruition. Any idea on how long after the initial release that double elimination brackets will be available for group stage?

I haven't read all the notes here or whatnot. I can only hope that this is still in the works. We use this website for organizing Super Smash Brothers Melee tournaments every month.
The general tournament structure is like so:
splitting up all tournament participants into round-robin pools. Top X in pools get seeded into the main double elimination bracket. 1st in pools gets seeded into round 2 or winners bracket and everyone else fights in round 1.This is pretty standard, however what I'd like to do is make it that an arbitrary number of players get seeded straight into the bracket and skip pools, while still possibly maintaining the option for 1st in pools to also skip round 1.
I was thinking along the lines of top 4 or top 8 of the previous tournament can skip pools. A bit of prestige and convenience, as well as a time saver with having the top players not having to roflstomp everyone in their pool all the time.

my two cents:
Rrunning a round robin tournament with a set number of games based on the player pool size and then transitioning into a seeded top 16, then 8, 4, finals would be ideal.I run beer pong leagues and at larger events this would be very helpful. Everyone plays 6 pre-lim/round robin games. The top seeds move thru....son on and so forth

Any updates on this one? It appears that it is been promised for a couple years now.

7 months passed since last admin communication on this feature, it would be nice to hear again about it's state.
I have a tournament to run starting on 16 June and I may have to decide for an alternative to challonge since it lacks this feature -

It would be incredibly useful to have multiple round Robins advancing into a knock out. In steel tip darts we typically play the RR to identify the top players in each flight. We would need to be able to define the flight size, and the number of players being advanced from each flight. Example. If we have 67 contestants, we could run 17 RR flight of 4 with 1 of those having a bye. Or we could have 12 flights of 6 with 5 of those having byes. When advancing players, we give better seeding to the top finisher from each flight.

will there be any considerations in adding variations because I really enjoyed dota 2 The International 3's format where the top 4 teams of the two groups gets seeded into the upper bracket and and bottom 4 teams of the two groups gets seeded into the lower bracket

Is there any way we can see how it is working now? Perhaps we can provide feedback. I'm ready for this format, even if the UI is not quite done!!

_Almost_ there. Group stages are already runnable in a development code branch, but we're refining the front-end interfaces. It took a few iterations to nail down a solution for this that's easy for tournament organizers to work with and modeled nicely for API users. We'll launch with support for 2 stages, likely with just round robin for the first stage, but we'll be able to scale it to multiple group stages and all tournament formats soon after.
Thanks for everyone's patience.
