We initially held off on adding this because our Swiss system is in need of a rewrite. However, time has clearly shown that the Swiss rewrite is having trouble getting to the top of our list, so we'll look to integrate the existing Swiss system into two stage.

In the meantime, please note that a 4-person double elimination group with *2* people advancing accomplishes nearly the same thing as 4-player Swiss. R1: 1v4, 2v3, R2 expected: 1v2 (1 advances), 3v4; R3 expected: 2v3 (2 advances). Swiss would be R1: 1v3, 2v4; R2 expected: 1v2, 3v4; R3 expected: 2v3, 1v4 (unnecessary), 1 & 2 advance.

When this is implemented, I would like to see an option for the players that did not make it into the final stage to continue to verse each other in a Swiss format for additional rounds.

Seconding that TCG comment. This is a very common way to format large open tournaments for card games, e.g. Magic the Gathering, Game of Thrones LCG, Netrunner LCG, etc.

Just as the OP said: Swiss first stage, cut the top performers to a single elim playoffs.

I'd like to try this with Hearthstone.

We host tournaments that are a quick "Swiss" tournament, each team plays 2 times, then based on points, wins, loss, ties, etc. they are ranked for a single elimination tournament.

The key for us it needs to be limited to 2 games per team during the swiss round.

Totally Agreed. I do not understand why it is there for one stage and not the two stage. If you have many people in your tournament, round robin does not make sense and double elimination sometimes makes for a quick exit.

Would love to hear response from designer before we look for other sites that accommodates this feature?

Totally agree, what we do after a few rounds of swiss is to divide the standing list into groups of four people, like positions 1,2,3,4 go to group 1 and they play for positions 1 to 4. Positions 5,6,7,8 go to group 2 and play for final standing 5 to 8 and so on.
This way tournaments are more compelling to the participants because they have a play off games in the end for final posistions, and swiss is a great alternative if you do not want to have groups or don't have a initial standing.

Any updates on this? This is by far one of the best features that Challonge could get. The entire TCG/CCG community will be extremely happy with this!

Agree completely. This is exactly what we do in our Hearthstone Fireside Tournaments in Amsterdam.

I have been looking for this feature for a while. This will benefit the TCG community greatly since a lot of the tournaments start with Swiss Rounds, then the top X (this should be editable) will enter a Single Elimination Bracket seeded based on the Swiss Round results.
