Totally agree, what we do after a few rounds of swiss is to divide the standing list into groups of four people, like positions 1,2,3,4 go to group 1 and they play for positions 1 to 4. Positions 5,6,7,8 go to group 2 and play for final standing 5 to 8 and so on.
This way tournaments are more compelling to the participants because they have a play off games in the end for final posistions, and swiss is a great alternative if you do not want to have groups or don't have a initial standing.
