2-stage that goes from all together into separate groups
This is pretty much the opposite of how a 2-stage tournament works. In a normal 2-stage, teams are divided into small groups and then all brought together for the second stage.
I do the opposite for some of my tournaments. We have different skill levels. If possible we like to separate the skill levels so they do not play each other. Sometimes, though, we do not have enough in one skill level to justify making a separate tournament. Instead, I combine everybody into one 2-stage tournament. The first stage is everyone combined, usually using the Swiss system. During the second stage, I separate the two skill levels into their own brackets to determine medals/placing. The second stage is typically very short, sometimes just one game (e.g. 1st in a skill level plays 2nd in the skill level for the gold medal).
Would it be possible for the second stage to divide and be seeded into predetermined groups?
