‘There is no opponent to stop it’ Cheongju KB, the first women’s professional basketball team to win all home games in the regular league in
Last season's poor performance is nowhere to be seen, and there is no one to stop it. This is the story of Cheongju KB Stars, a women's professional basketball team.
KB defeated Yongin Samsung Life 84-52 in Woori Bank's WON 2023-2024 Women's Professional Basketball Regular League home game at Cheongju Gymnasium on the 24th.
KB, which had already secured the top spot in the regular league and won the championship, beat Samsung Life Insurance on the same day and achieved the record of winning all 15 home games this season.
KB is the only team that has won all home games since the 2007-2008 season, when the summer and winter leagues were integrated in the women's professional basketball league, which began in 1998.
Heo Ye-eun, who had 11 points and 11 assists, took the lead in achieving the all-time home game record, while Kim Min-jung (12 points), Park Ji-soo (11 points), Yeom Yoon-ah (11 points) and Kang Yi-seul (10 points) also scored double digits. Park Hye-mi struggled hard with 10 points and four rebounds for Samsung Life Insurance, but failed to prevent her from losing.
KB, which has been active at home throughout the season, led the mood from the first quarter. Park Ji-soo, who took a break from the last game, bothered Samsung Life with seven points, while Heo Ye-eun and Yeom Yoon-ah also helped.
KB continued its momentum in the second quarter, followed by Yeom Yoon-ah, Kim Min-jung and Kang Yi-seul in the scoring procession. Samsung Life fought back with Keana Smith and Shin Seul firing their outer shells, but KB finished the first half with a 41-24 lead.
Samsung Life Insurance's pursuit began in the third quarter. Following Park Hae-mi's 3-pointer, Samsung Life narrowed the gap to consecutive goals of Lee Hae-ran and Jo Su-ah. However, KB's score gap widened to 20 points thanks to Heo Ye-eun and Kang Yi-seul's 3-pointers, and at the end of the third quarter, it widened to 63-34, effectively giving KB a victory.
As the score gap widened by nearly 30 points, KB called in the starters and actively utilized bench resources such as Ahn Jung-hyun, Sung Hye-kyung, and Sung Soo-yeon. In the meantime, KB did not give up the lead, and the game was KB's big win in the end.
